Greatness lies in sympathy

Philip Sydney was wounded in a battle. (a short story) The bone of his thigh was broken, yet he walked about a mile and reached his camp. He was very thirsty and became almost fainted with the great exertion. He asked for a cup of water. The water was instantly brought in for him. (a short story)But when he was about to put the cup to his mouth he found that an ordinary soldier was looking at the cup wishfully. (a short story) He was so long uncared for. The generous Philip Sydney then handed over the cup to the soldier, instead of taking himself, saying: “Thy necessity is greater than mine.”

Evil has its own excuses

A mischievous dog made his bed on some sweet hay which were stored up for the ox. (a short story)The ox came in hungry and seeing the dog on the hay, requested him to go away so that he might  make a food of it. But the dog growled at him. He would not let him touch the hay though the dog would never take the hay. Rather the dog mischievously told him “I do not take it, and will never allow anybody to take it.” (a short story) The ox become disappointed and went away. (a short story)

Do not believe a rogue

(a short story)There was a fox. He was bad. By chance he fell into a well. The sides of the well were steep and he could not come out of it. A goat happened to pass by the road and looked down. Seeing the fox there, the goat said to him, “What are you doing there.” (a short story) The clever fox replied, “The sweetest of waters are here in the well. Do you like to drink it?” The goat became tempted and got down into the well. He drank a little water also. Then the clever fox somehow managed to get on the back of the goat and jumped out of the well. The goat remained there. (a short story)

The judgment of king Solomon

Once there lived two women in a village.( a short story )  One of them had a baby. But the other women claimed that baby. ( a short story ) As a result both of them entangled in a quarrel. None could find a solution to the problem. Last of all they went to the court of king Solomon. King Solomon was a very wise and just king. Finding out the truth he could solve any problem. When he saw that none left claim of the baby, he thought what to do. Then he ordered one of his men to cut the baby into two equal halves and give one half to each of the woman. The first woman became very elated.( a short story )  He said, “I’m agreed with the decision.” Please give me my half.” But the second woman started howling. She told the king. “Don’t kill the baby. ( a short story ) I don’t need my share. Give the baby to her.” The king understood the fact and gave the baby to the second woman and the first woman was sent to prison.( a short story )

Wisdom of King Solomon

Everyone has heard of Solomon. ( a short story ) The king of the Jew was famous all over the world for his wealth and magnificence and specially for his wisdom. The Queen of Sheba heard much about the grandeur of Solomon’s court and the worldwide reputation of his learning and wisdom.( a short story )  Attracted by such reports. She came to test the king. She brought with her two garlands of flowers-one natural and the other artificial. She placed them before the king to take the natural one. Solomon was puzzled for a time.( a short story )  While pondering he noticed some bees humming for honey in a withered rose. He asked the windows to be opened. The bees came in and settled on the natural flowers and thus solved the riddle of the Queen. ( a short story ) The Queen of Sheba was surprised and went admiring the king as of great wisdom.

The fox without a tail

One day a fox in a jungle fell into a trap.( a short story )  He tried hard to be free and managed somehow but lost his tail. ( a short story ) Without the tail the fox looked strange and ugly. He felt sad and ashamed. So he hit upon a plan. He called a meeting of all the foxes in the jungle. Seeing all the foxes in the meeting, he was very much pleased. When he stood he stood up to deliver his speech, other foxes were making fun of him without tail. ( a short story ) He got the point and so he told them to keep quiet. Then he fold them with a gay mind that he had made a great discovery. He said, “What are the uses of the tails? I think no use at all. Moreover, it makes us ugly. That’s why I’ve cut my tail. ( a short story ) Without the tail I feel so free, light and sportive. I can run faster than ever. So cut off your tails as I’ve done.” The foxes listened to him and took his suggestion a good one. ( a short story ) The fox without tail also told them about the demerits of having tails. So, the foxes in the meeting were so touched by his speech that they started thinking their tails as burden and most of them wanted to cut their tails without making any delay. ( a short story ) When they were about to do that, right at that moment a wise fox stood up and said, “Listen to me, please. Don’t accept his advice. That fox fell into a trap and lost his tail. Now he looks funny and ugly.( a short story )  So, he wants us all look like him. Don’t follow his advice.” The speech of the wise fox made other foxes think over the matter. Just at that moment, the wise fox again said, “Look at your tails. How nice they are! Nature has given us everything what is beautiful and useful. ( a short story ) If we cut our tails, we will face many problems for it.” Hearing that, all the foxes understood the trick of the fox without tail. They rebuked him and boycotted him.( a short story )  Being failure, the fox without tail went away for ever.( a short story )
